Hurricane Preparedness

As hurricane season approaches, it is important for homeowners, businesses and property managers to take time to review their buildings, sites and emergency plans. In the Cayman Islands, preparation is not just about supplies — it is also about making sure our homes, workplaces and infrastructure are as safe and resilient as possible.

Architects, engineers and surveyors play an important role in helping our community prepare. This includes designing and assessing buildings for wind, flooding and storm surge risks; checking roof conditions, drainage, shutters, generators and critical systems; and  ensuring properties are  properly documented and maintained before a storm occurs.

Good preparation helps protect lives, property and the wider community. By working together and planning ahead, we can help ensure Cayman remains resilient throughout hurricane season.

Residents are encouraged to inspect their homes and buildings early, clear drains and gutters, secure loose outdoor items, review insurance documentation, and address any visible structural or drainage concerns before severe weather is forecast. Property owners should also keep copies of surveys, plans, permits and insurance records in a safe digital location.
